Frequently Asked Questions:
How do Kustom™ Radiator Enclosures increase heating efficiency?
In a study by the University of Illinois, it was proven that a properly designed radiator enclosure increases the heating efficiency of the radiator. The enclosure prevents the heat from traveling up the wall to the ceiling, and rather projects it out into the room so that the “living area” of the room stays warmer.
How hot will the Radiator Cover get?
How hot the radiator cover gets is very dependent on how much space there is between the enclosure and the radiator. We always recommend at least 1” clearance to allow for air circulation, but the more space there is, the lower the temperature of the enclosure. Kustom™ Radiator Enclosures have been installed in many hospitals, nursing homes, day care facilities and schools in order to prevent contact burns.
What is the best way to paint the Radiator Enclosure?
Our Kustom™ Enclosures are manufactured from a zinc-impregnated steel, and is ready-to-paint. Using a semi-gloss or gloss paint (rather than a flat paint) is recommended for ease of cleaning. Paint can be rolled, sprayed or brushed, though brushing can tend to leave brush marks if you’re not careful. Krylon brand Semi-Gloss spray paint produces a very good finish. Many of our customers have also utilized creative painting techniques, such as wood graining, stenciling and faux finishing with breathtaking results.
How difficult is the Radiator Cover to assemble?
Each Kustom™ radiator cover is shipped knocked-down and individually packaged, both to keep shipping costs low, as well as for ease of transport to your home. Once they are unpacked, they are easily assembled with eight (8) included screws. First, the sides are each screwed to the front panel, and then the partial back panel is screwed in place. Lastly, the top of placed on the enclosure. Detailed instructions and pictures are included with each Kustom™ enclosure.
